Every Lane Is Victory Lane With The 2023 Corvette Z06

The Chevrolet Corvette is a classic performance supercar, with eight generations of the model melding high-end luxury and explosive power for over seven decades. The latest release in the lineup promises to be the best yet, with the 2023 Corvette Z06 delivering unmatched performance alongside an impressive set of technological enhancements.

Canadian sales are set to begin in the summer of 2022, and here are the features that demand a test drive as soon as it arrives in our dealership.

Exterior Design

One glance is all it takes to know that the Corvette Z06 is something very special, whether you're considering the available coupe or cabriolet models. Every inch of the bodywork is sculpted and curved into a classic supercar profile but with a slew of harder angles giving a futuristic, stealth-like appearance. Importantly, the engine has been moved to a mid-body position behind the driver, and when this is combined with a wider base than regular Corvettes, the overall result is a lower, more aggressive centre of gravity that screams of dynamic drivability.

Track-Inspired Powertrain

But of course, all the high-end design in the world is worth little if the engineering doesn't match up to its promises. Happily, the Z06 exceeds all expectations on that score. Based on the same technology as the all-conquering C8.R race car, the Z06's powertrain will offer immense power for a street-ready vehicle.

The new 5.5L engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in production, pushing out an incredible 670 horsepower and 460lb-ft of torque, figures more often seen in a high-end full-size truck than a two-seater street car. The immense output is passed to rear-wheel drive only via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Searing Performance

The Z06's bodywork uses large amounts of carbon fibre materials to keep the car's weight as low as possible. When the optional carbon fibre wheels are added, the result is an extremely low curb weight of just 1,561kg, a reduction of 18.6kg over the standard model. This means every drop of power the engine produces is put to good use building up momentum rather than hauling unnecessary kilograms. Combine the low weight with the high output and strong aerodynamic design, and the Z06 can clock up some seriously impressive performance figures.

Chevy rates the 0-96km/h time at a searing 2.6 seconds, and while the official top speed hasn't yet been revealed, it's expected to outpace the 2022 X06's high-end figure of 313km/h.

Interior and Features

The main attraction of the Z06 may be its outstanding performance, but the interior quality certainly hasn't been overlooked by the Corvette designers. The layout emphasis is firmly on the driver, starting with a striking square steering wheel and a dash that curves inward to the centre console to give an all-enveloping cockpit feel.

Instrumentation is provided by a colour TFT digital cluster, backed up by an 8" touchscreen display for infotainment. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard for smartphone integration, along with a wireless charging pad to ensure your device stays fully juiced.

The Z06 also features the available Corvette Performance Data Recorder, which allows the storage and sharing of telemetry data alongside a video of your drive. While this feature may have its roots in track-side optimization of engineering and driving skills, it's a delightful option to store your more lively driving adventures for posterity.

Active Safety Technology

The impressive level of technology continues with the suite of safety systems available either as standard or through add-on packages. Key features include:

• A colour head-up display to help you keep your attention on the road ahead.

• Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.

• A multi-view camera system for full awareness of the conditions around the car.

• Rear parking sensors and a rear camera to protect your bumper.

Choose from Three 2023 Corvette Z06 Trims

The Z06 is available across three trims. At the entry-level, the 1LZ provides all the performance and style of the standard model and also includes features such as eight-way powered seat adjustment, a ten-speaker audio system, and a colour head-up display.

Moving to the next level, the 2LZ adds heated and ventilated seats plus in-built connected navigation and upgrades the audio to a 14-speaker rig. At the top level, the 3LZ adds interior luxuries including Napa leather upholstery, leather-wrapped instrument panel and doors, and carbon fibre trims for the steering wheel and shift panels.

In addition, all three trims are available in coupe format with a removable roof panel, or as full cabriolets with a powered retractable hardtop.
