New Features In The 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500

If you’re thinking of getting a new truck, you should take a look at the new 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500. This latest model isn’t just a tweak to last year’s model with some new colour options; there are some major additions to the truck that give drivers more choice for their money.

So, what’s new about the 2020 Silverado 1500? We list some of the big changes that will make a difference.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Another nice addition to the 2020 Silverado 1500 is the inclusion of an adaptive cruise control system for the LT, LTZ, and High Country models. Through the use of an additional camera, the road is scanned continuously, and the incoming image is processed by proprietary software and algorithms to calculate and maintain the safest distance between you and the vehicle ahead.

If required, this adaptive cruise control can even act on its own bring the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 to a complete stop for more efficiency and safety on the road. It’s no substitute for being alert as a driver, but it’s an extra safety measure, especially during cruise control driving.

New Engine

The biggest new addition is that over half of the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 trims come packed with a powerful 6.2 L V8 engine rated at 420 horsepower. That engine provides 460 pound-feet of torque and comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for greater versatility and efficiency. That’s a lot of power for something classed as a light-duty truck.

As an additional change, especially for people who want to get more from their off-roading capability, the Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss have upgrades for a 2” factory suspension lift, and Z71 Off-Road Package with locking rear differential, skid plates, and Rancho mono-tube off-road shocks.

For drivers who don't necessarily need these big upgrades, the standard 5.3 L V8 engine option is still available, and now, it can be paired with some 10-speed transmission trims, so there’s always a choice.

The RST Gets an Upgrade

The Chevy Silverado RST has always been a popular model because of its 4x4 capabilities. Now, that 4x4 power is getting a bigger boost with the new engines. The 2020 Silverado 1500 RST 4x4 models will now get a boost from that same 6.2 L V8 engine.

Off-roading just became more interesting and more ambitious than ever before with this upgrade, and drivers should see a real difference in what they can do with this performance boost.

Going Diesel

For the first time ever the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 will have a diesel engine option.

If you’re looking for something with a bit more efficiency and power, a 3.0 L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine is now available on LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country 2020 Silverado 1500 models. It comes with SAE certified 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and peak torque at just 1500 rpm, sustained to 3,000 rpm. This is a more efficient, refined drive, and it’s finally available for drivers looking for a diesel option.

New Camera Views

Another major addition to the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 is up to 15 unique camera views available to assist driving, especially in tricky situations like backing up, trailering, and towing. The unique thing about this feature is that these 15 cameras will adjust to a new angle on your screen based on the front-wheel angle.

When you activate the turn signal, the cameras work together to superimpose a rear camera view on the back of the trailer, giving you the illusion of a transparent trailer so that you can still see what’s behind you during those delicate manoeuvres. This great for trying out some serious towing and trailering with the new diesel models.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado has made some great new additions to what was already a formidable light-duty truck. If you’re interested in seeing more of what this truck can do and other available options in different trims, come down and see the truck for yourself! Ask our dealers any questions you might have, and find out if all these new additions make the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 the truck you need.
